Biography
Jônatas Belgrande is a singer-songwriter from Rio de Janeiro who gained notoriety through social media with videos exploring the relationship between brazilian popular music (MPB) and everyday affective expressions. His phrase "In Portuguese one says 'I love you', but in MPB one says..." went viral, establishing his artistic identity as a sensitive interpreter connected with the language of brazilian music to express feelings.
His debut album, "Démodé", released in 2026, is an extension of this universe, featuring 10 original tracks and narrative interludes that rescue the value of romanticism, vulnerability, and presence in times of ephemeral relationships. The album's sound moves through various textures of MPB, with influences ranging from Gilberto Gil and Lenine to Clube da Esquina. The title "Démodé" is an ironic provocation about what is considered "out of fashion", but which, in the artist's view, still holds great affective value.
Belgrande began his musical career with the release of the EP "Coisa Rara" in 2022, which pays homage to an old artistic collective and dialogues with new MPB. His track "Eu Gosto Dela" gained popularity on TikTok, and his most recent work, "Carioca", explores sambalanço and new MPB to portray Rio de Janeiro from a suburban and authentic perspective. The artist has also performed in Portugal, bringing his affective MPB to international audiences.
