Biography

João Bernardo da Cunha Neto, artistically known as Jonga Cunha, was born in Salvador, Bahia, on April 11, 1961. With a career spanning over four decades, Jonga has established himself as one of the most influential names in Bahian music, working as a musician, music producer, cultural coordinator, and businessman. His trajectory is marked by creative restlessness and a passion for the culture of his homeland, dedicating himself to honoring, recording, and reinventing the music that projected Brazil to the world.

Jonga Cunha is widely recognized for his fundamental participation in the founding of Banda Eva, in 1981, a milestone in the history of axé music. He was not only one of the creators of the carnival block, but also one of the producers who boosted the careers of major artists, such as Ivete Sangalo and Daniela Mercury. His entrepreneurial vision and keen eye for talent were crucial to the success of these names, who would become icons of Brazilian music. In addition, Jonga is the author of the book "Por Trás dos Tambores" (Behind the Drums), which recounts memories and important facts of Bahian music, launched in Salvador and New York.

His work goes beyond production and the founding of groups. Jonga Cunha is also the creator of innovative projects that seek to renew and value the Bahian music scene, such as the "Pranchão," a stage-truck that revolutionized musical occupation during carnival, and "Mesa de Axé," a project that celebrates the history of axé music through meetings between artists and the public. His influence extends across several areas, including radio, advertising, and international events, demonstrating his versatility and commitment to Brazilian art and culture.
