Jorge Américo de Souza, widely known as Memeco, was a Brazilian composer and volleyball player born in Rio de Janeiro in 1940. He gained recognition in the music scene for his samba compositions, with "Povo Feliz" (also known as "Voa, Canarinho") being one of his most famous works. This particular song was notably recorded in 1982 by the renowned former football player Júnior, showcasing Memeco's connection to prominent figures in Brazilian culture.

Beyond his musical endeavors, Memeco was also an accomplished athlete. He was a member of the Brazilian national volleyball team that competed in the 1968 Olympic Games held in Mexico.
