Biography

Jorge Abner Drexler Prada was born in Montevideo, Uruguay, on September 21, 1964. Before establishing himself in music, he graduated in medicine with a specialization in otolaryngology, following in his family's footsteps. Based in Spain since 1995, he has built a solid career as a singer-songwriter, standing out in Spanish-language singer-songwriter music and maintaining deep connections with Ibero-American and Brazilian music.

Throughout his career, he has achieved significant international prominence, consolidated by several acclaimed albums such as Sea, Frontera, Eco, Bailar en la Cueva, Salvavidas de Hielo, and Tinta y Tiempo. His work has received dozens of prestigious nominations and awards, including multiple Latin Grammys and a Goya Award. In 2005, he made history by winning the Academy Award for Best Original Song with "Al otro lado del Río," a track featured on the soundtrack of the film The Motorcycle Diaries, directed by the Brazilian filmmaker Walter Salles.

In addition to his solo work focused on songwriting and Rioplatense roots, such as the candombe explored on the album Taracá, Drexler has collaborated with several exponents of Brazilian popular music. His artistic sensitivity and movement across different musical styles connect him with major names in MPB and Latin American song, reflecting a constant dialogue among the musical cultures of Uruguay, Brazil, Spain, and Argentina.
