Biography

Jorge Procópio Ferreira Guedes, known professionally as Jorge Guedes, is a prominent Brazilian singer and composer born in São Luiz Gonzaga, Rio Grande do Sul, on September 13, 1964. Growing up in a musical family as the youngest of ten siblings under the guidance of his father Francisco da Silva Guedes, he developed a deep passion for traditionalist and Missioneira music. During his career, he has collaborated with legendary regional figures such as Noel Guarany, Jayme Caetano Braun, Cenair Maicá, and Nico Fagundes, cementing his status as one of the finest interpreters of southern Brazilian culture.

Throughout his trajectory, Guedes has released celebrated albums such as Terra Missioneira, Paisagens de Fim de Tarde, and Das Missões às Cordilheiras, alongside collaborative works like A Volta do Missioneiro with Noel Guarany. His artistic output often bridges regional folklore with broader social and historical themes, notably reflected in his album dedicated to Che Guevara and his award-winning compositions like Nego Betão. Beyond regional stages, he has carried his mission to national and international audiences, earning accolades such as the Vitor Mateus Teixeira Award and performing on prominent television programs like Jô Soares' show and Rolando Boldrin's Sr. Brasil.

Today, Jorge Guedes continues to perform and preserve the authenticity of the countryside lifestyle alongside his family, often sharing the stage with contemporary traditionalist acts. His work remains a vital touchstone for the preservation of Rio Grande do Sul's heritage, inspiring newer generations of southern musicians. Through his unwavering dedication to the accordion, guitar, and poetic storytelling, he stands as an enduring pillar of regional Brazilian roots music.
