Biography

Jorge Helder Rodrigues, born in Fortaleza, Ceará, on April 9, 1962, is a highly respected Brazilian bassist, composer, and arranger. His musical journey began in childhood with the bandolim and later transitioned to the electric bass during his teenage years in a rock band. He pursued formal studies in music in Brasília, where he honed his skills on the acoustic bass. Helder's career took a significant turn when he moved to Rio de Janeiro in 1986, joining Sandra de Sá's band and subsequently becoming a sought-after musician for numerous MPB artists.

Over the decades, Helder has collaborated with a vast array of prominent Brazilian musicians, including Maria Bethânia, Edu Lobo, Chico Buarque, Caetano Veloso, and Gal Costa. His distinctive bass playing has graced over 350 albums and live performances, earning him the reputation of being "the most sought-after bass player in Brazil," as described by Maria Bethânia. Beyond his work as an instrumentalist, Helder has also made his mark as a composer, notably through his songwriting partnerships with Chico Buarque.

In addition to his extensive work accompanying other artists, Jorge Helder has released his own solo albums, such as "Samba Doce" (2020) and "Caroá" (2022). These projects showcase his compositional talent and his deep connection to Brazilian musical traditions, often drawing inspiration from his Northeastern roots.
