Biography

Jorge Martins was a Brazilian composer, primarily known for his samba compositions. Born in São Paulo around 1930, he established himself in the music scene with his collaborations.

His career gained significant traction in 1959 when his sambas "Força do perdão" and "Vai pra casa," co-written with José Saccomani, were recorded by the renowned singer Gilberto Alves on his LP "Gilberto Alves e o samba." This marked an important milestone in Martins' career, bringing his work to a wider audience.

Throughout the early 1960s, Martins continued to contribute to the samba genre. In 1960, Gilberto Alves recorded two more of his sambas: "Lanterna na mão," with Elzo Augusto and José Saccomani, and "Me deixa penar," with Edu Rocha and Milton Legey. In 1961, his samba "Fiquei feliz," co-authored with Lourival Perez and José Garcia, was released by Rinaldo Calheiros on a Copacabana Records release. These collaborations highlight his active role as a songwriter within the Brazilian popular music landscape.
