Biography

Jorginho do Pandeiro was a renowned Brazilian percussionist born in Rio de Janeiro. Throughout his career, he became a celebrated figure in choro and traditional Brazilian music, performing with legendary groups and recording alongside some of the country's most iconic artists. He was a prominent member of the famous ensemble Época de Ouro, which was originally formed by Jacob do Bandolim.

In addition to his instrumental work, Jorginho produced albums for legendary MPB artists such as Silvio Caldas, Clara Nunes, and Elizeth Cardoso. He also performed with major cultural figures like Chico Buarque, Beth Carvalho, Luiz Gonzaga, and Paulinho da Viola. His career was deeply intertwined with the golden age of Brazilian radio, having played in the house bands of Rádio Nacional and Rádio Mayrink Veiga.

His remarkable career also included a stint with the renowned Regional do Canhoto. Jorginho maintained his musical legacy for decades, keeping the spirit of choro alive through his virtuosic pandeiro playing. He passed away in Rio de Janeiro in 2017 at the age of 86, leaving behind a lasting impact on Brazilian instrumental music.
