Biography

Jorge Eduardo de Oliveira Gomes, better known as Jorginho Gomes, was born in Salvador on September 7, 1954. The son of musicians and brother of Pepeu Gomes, he grew up immersed in an artistic environment and began playing professionally in childhood, joining groups such as Os Minos and Os Leif's. Self-taught, he stood out not only on drums, but also in percussion, cavaquinho, mandolin, and vocals.

His consolidation in the history of Brazilian music came when he joined the iconic group Novos Baianos starting in 1970, participating in crucial moments of MPB and Brazilian rock alongside names like Moraes Moreira and Baby Consuelo. In addition, Jorginho recorded and accompanied giants of our music such as Gilberto Gil, Caetano Veloso, Gal Costa, Tim Maia, Marisa Monte, and Ana Carolina. For over two decades, he served as the permanent drummer in Gilberto Gil's band, solidifying a solid reputation on the country's stages and in its studios.

As a composer, he is the author of memorable tracks like "Um bilhete pra Didi" and partnerships with artists of the caliber of Pepeu Gomes and Kiko Continentino. Moving easily between the sound of the electric floats at the Bahia Carnival and the sophistication of instrumental music, Jorginho Gomes remains a fundamental figure in percussion and drums on the national scene.
