Biography

José Augusto Cougil was born in Rio de Janeiro in 1953 and began his artistic journey in childhood, studying piano, harmony, and solfège. After winning a music festival in his teens and facing several rejections from record labels, he got his big break when he was discovered by producer Renato Corrêa, releasing his first major hit record in 1973 with the success "De Que Vale Ter Tudo Na Vida".

Throughout his career, the singer established himself as one of the leading names in romantic music in Brazil and the Latin American market. He became widely known for landing dozens of soundtrack songs in Rede Globo telenovelas, in addition to composing for major icons of Brazilian music, such as Alcione, Simone, and Fafá de Belém.

His international projection earned him significant record sales and awards in Latin America, alongside partnerships with renowned artists. With tours ranging from domestic venues to international stages and millions of copies sold, José Augusto cemented his name in the history of Brazilian popular song.
