José Carlos Marques, known artistically as Jota Carlos, was born in Rio de Janeiro, RJ, on October 11, 1944. He is a multifaceted artist whose career spans journalism, radio production, and music. Marques began his career in journalism in 1968, working as a reporter, editor, and columnist for various prominent media outlets, including Sistema Globo de Rádio, O Globo, A Gazeta Mercantil, and Diário de Notícias. His work in radio was particularly notable, where he produced and hosted cultural programs such as "Especial JB," "Arte Final Jazz," "Arte Revista," "MEC Instrumental," and "Ao Vivo Entre Amigos." He was recognized as "Jota Carlos – O Repórter que fareja a notícia" (The Reporter who sniffs out the news) for his investigative journalism.

Beyond his journalistic endeavors, Jota Carlos has also made significant contributions to Brazilian music.
