Biography

João Paulo Gomes da Silva, known artistically as Jota.pê, was born in Osasco, São Paulo, on February 14, 1993. Coming from a family with strong ties to music, he began studying acoustic guitar at the age of eight. His musical journey is marked by versatility, moving between MPB, pop, samba, and soul, reflecting his life experiences and the complexities of contemporary Brazil. Jota.pê gained notoriety after participating in the sixth season of "The Voice Brasil" in 2018, where he sought professional and artistic improvement.

His solo career gained momentum with the release of his debut album, "Crônicas de um Sonhador", in 2015. Later, he formed the duo Àvuà alongside Bruna Black, releasing the album "Percorrer em nós" in 2022. In 2023, he presented the EP "Se o meu peito fosse o mundo (Lado A)", which preceded the acclaimed album "Se o meu peito fosse o mundo" (2024). This latest work earned him international recognition, including the 2024 Latin Grammy awards in the categories of Best MPB Album / Afro-Portuguese-Brazilian Music Album and Best Engineered Album, as well as Best Portuguese Language Song for "Ouro marrom".

Jota.pê is frequently associated with artists such as Emicida, Djavan, Caetano Veloso, and Chico Buarque, demonstrating his connection to the rich tradition of Brazilian music while exploring new sounds and collaborations. His most recent work includes the album "Dominguinho" (2025), in partnership with João Gomes and Mestrinho, which celebrates forró and achieved streaming and critical success. The artist is known for his engaging stage presence and for addressing social and cultural themes in his compositions, establishing himself as a significant voice in the new generation of Brazilian music.
