Biography

Juliana Strassacapa, known professionally as Ju Strassacapa or Lazúli, is a Brazilian singer, songwriter, and percussionist. She gained prominence as the lead vocalist and percussionist for the band Francisco, el Hombre, which she joined in 2013. The band, formed by Mexican-born brothers Sebastián and Mateo Piracés-Ugarte, is known for its eclectic sound that blends Brazilian and Mexican folk music, rock, and MPB, often performing in Portuguese, Spanish, and English. Francisco, el Hombre received a Latin Grammy nomination in 2017 for their song "Triste, Louca ou Má," a powerful feminist anthem that has become widely recognized in Latin America.

In addition to her work with Francisco, el Hombre, Ju Strassacapa has also pursued a solo career under the artistic name Lazúli. This solo project, launched in 2020 with the single "Duas Águas," explores themes of healing, spirituality, and sexuality. Lazúli's music incorporates electronic beats, funk, rock, and elements of Brazilian folklore, aiming to create "songs of magic" that reflect her personal journey and artistic expression. Her solo work often features collaborations with other female musicians, emphasizing a collective and empowering creative process.

Strassacapa is also recognized for her activism and commitment to social causes, particularly in support of women and LGBTQIA+ communities. Her artistic expression is deeply intertwined with her identity, and she has been described as a non-binary artist.
