Biography

Júlia Vargas is a Brazilian singer, dancer, and percussionist, born in Cabo Frio, Rio de Janeiro. The daughter of singer-songwriter Evandro Terra and conductor Selemar Vargas, her musical journey is marked by a strong family connection to art, given that her grandfather, Maurílio Santos, was a trumpeter in the Tabajara Orchestra for 37 years.

She began her artistic career in dance, performing at the Municipal Theater of Rio de Janeiro and the Deborah Colker Movement Center. At 18, she joined Oswaldo Montenegro's "Mulungo" company, and soon after began performing as a singer. Her powerful and visceral voice quickly made her stand out, attracting the attention of big names in Brazilian music such as Milton Nascimento, with whom she toured and opened shows, and Zélia Duncan, who invited her to sing at one of her events. Ivan Lins, impressed by her talent, gifted her an unreleased song that was recorded on her first album.

Throughout her career, Júlia Vargas has released several acclaimed albums, such as "Júlia Vargas" (2012), "Júlia Vargas & Os Barnabés ao vivo em Niterói" (2015), and "Pop Banana" (2017). Her music is recognized for the fusion of Brazilian and Latin American rhythms, moving between samba, forró, and folkloric elements with contemporary arrangements. Her versatility and expressiveness have consolidated her as one of the most promising voices of the new generation of Música Popular Brasileira (MPB).
