Biography

Flávio Basso, better known as Júpiter Maçã or Jupiter Apple, was born in Porto Alegre and became one of the most emblematic and influential figures in Brazilian rock. He began his musical journey in his youth, founding fundamental bands for the "rock gaúcho" movement, such as TNT and Os Cascavelletes, a group that stood out in the 1980s scene and left its mark on the national landscape with its irreverent and provocative style.

In his solo career, Basso intensely explored psychedelia and experimentalism, establishing himself as a true icon of national alternative music. His debut solo album, A Sétima Efervescência, released in 1997, received critical acclaim and entered historical lists of Brazilian music relevance, standing out for its rich and inventive sound. Throughout the following years, he continued to defy commercial labels by incorporating elements of jazz, bossa nova, and electronic music in works like Plastic Soda and Hisscivilization.

The artist passed away in December 2015 in his hometown, leaving a profound and lasting artistic legacy that continues to inspire new generations of musicians and fans. His compositions and recordings have been revisited and honored by several exponents of national music, including names like Frank Jorge, Nei Van Soria, and Rogério Skylab, reaffirming his unique importance in Brazilian culture.
