Biography

Juraildes da Cruz is a prominent Brazilian singer and songwriter born in Aurora do Norte, which is now part of the state of Tocantins. Growing up in a culturally rich environment, he was deeply influenced by traditional rural sounds such as folias de reis, cantigas de roda, and catiras, alongside the music of icons like Luiz Gonzaga and Jackson do Pandeiro. After moving to Goiânia at the age of nine, he expanded his musical palette by learning the guitar and exploring classical guitar, the Jovem Guarda movement, MPB, and 1970s rock, which ultimately shaped his unique hybrid style.

He officially began his artistic career in 1976 by winning first place at the GREMI music festival in Inhumas, Goiás, eventually participating in over a hundred music festivals throughout his career. His breakthrough came with significant festival appearances, including the 1979 Festival Tupi, where he shared the stage with legendary artists like Caetano Veloso, Elba Ramalho, Zé Ramalho, and Alceu Valença. In 1990, he released his debut album, Cheiro de Terra, featuring collaborations with renowned musicians such as Paulo Moura and Jaques Morelenbaum. His compositions have been recorded by esteemed interpreters like Pena Branca e Xavantinho, Xangai, Rolando Boldrin, and Margareth Menezes.

Over the decades, Juraildes da Cruz has received widespread critical acclaim and major industry accolades, including winning a Prêmio SHARP in 1998 for his regionally celebrated song "Nóis é Jeca, Mais é Jóia". He has also been honored through prestigious cultural initiatives such as the Projeto Pixinguinha and the Rumos Itaú Cultural program, further cementing his legacy as a vital representative of Midwestern Brazilian regional music. His enduring contributions to the genre continue to inspire new generations of listeners and musicians alike.
