Biography

Jurim Moreira is a highly respected Brazilian percussionist and drummer, born on May 15, 1956, in São Paulo. His musical journey began at the tender age of eight, participating in a radio program hosted by his father. This early exposure ignited a passion for music, leading him to study piano and drums, and later enroll at the Brooklyn Paulista Conservatory at twelve. Seeking further artistic development, Moreira moved to Rio de Janeiro and continued his classical music training at the Villa-Lobos Conservatory under the guidance of Edgar Nunes Rocca (Bituca).

Moreira's professional career commenced with the Rio de Janeiro Municipal Theater Symphony Orchestra, where he performed as a percussionist for two years. His versatility and talent quickly gained recognition, leading him to collaborate with a vast array of prominent Brazilian artists. He has recorded with legends such as Milton Nascimento, Gilberto Gil, Maria Bethânia, João Bosco, Roberto Carlos, Edu Lobo, Gal Costa, and Chico Buarque, among many others. His contributions span across numerous albums, solidifying his reputation as a sought-after session musician.

Beyond his studio work, Jurim Moreira has graced numerous international jazz festivals across Europe, including the Nyon Jazz Festival, Montreux Jazz Festival, and the North Sea Jazz Festival. He has also been a key figure in Brazilian instrumental music, participating in projects like "Percussão Brasil" and leading his own ensemble, Cuarteto Brasil. His extensive career is marked by a profound dedication to rhythm and an exceptional ability to adapt to diverse musical styles, making him a significant figure in Brazilian music.
