Biography
Karina Buhr (born May 20, 1974) is a Brazilian singer-songwriter, actress, percussionist, and writer. Born in Salvador, Bahia, Buhr moved to Recife, Pernambuco, at a young age, where she was immersed in the region's rich folk music traditions. She began her musical journey in 1992, participating as a percussionist in maracatu groups such as Piaba de Ouro and Estrela Brilhante do Recife.
In 1997, Buhr co-founded the band Comadre Florzinha (later known as Fulozinha), which gained recognition for its innovative presentation of Pernambuco's musical heritage. After her time with Comadre Fulozinha, she embarked on a solo career in 2010 with the release of her album "Eu Menti Pra Você," which was lauded by Rolling Stone Brazil as one of the year's best. Her music often blends rock, punk, and electronic elements with the traditional rhythms of maracatu and ciranda, creating a unique and dynamic sound. Buhr has also explored her artistic versatility as an actress, participating in theater productions and films.
She has released several acclaimed solo albums, including "Longe de Onde" (2011), "Selvática" (2015), and "Desmanche" (2019). Buhr's work is characterized by its experimental nature, lyrical depth, and strong connection to Brazilian cultural roots, often addressing themes of feminism and social commentary. She has collaborated with various artists throughout her career, including musicians like Otto and members of the band Eddie.
