Biography

The Katinguelê group is a Brazilian pagode and samba musical ensemble, formed in the city of São Paulo in the first half of the 1980s. It emerged in the neighborhood of Cidade Dutra, in the southern zone of São Paulo, between 1983 and 1985, and quickly began performing in nightclubs in the capital. The name "Katinguelê" was inspired by the song "Roda de Samba da Bahia", by the renowned group Fundo de Quintal, which served as a reference for the original members.

The rise of romantic pagode in the late 80s and early 90s opened doors for Katinguelê in the recording industry. Their first recording was the samba "Um Doce Sabor", included in the compilation album "Chopapo" in 1992. Success on São Paulo radio stations propelled the release of their first studio album, "Bem no Íntimo", in 1992, featuring the title track, written by Salgadinho, as a highlight. The second album, "Meu Recado", released in 1994, reached the mark of 100,000 copies sold. In 1996, with the album "No Compasso do Criador", released by Warner's EastWest label, the group reached 700,000 copies and scored hits such as "Nosso Momentos" and "Ainda Resta Uma Bagagem".

Throughout its career, Katinguelê has released over 12 CDs and 2 DVDs, accumulating around 8 million records sold and more than 60 million plays and views on digital platforms. The group is considered one of the biggest names in Brazilian pagode, known for soundtracking love stories with their songs. Despite some lineup changes, such as the departure and subsequent return of Salgadinho, Katinguelê maintains its essence and continues to perform, celebrating over four decades of musical trajectory.
