Biography

Kiko Mitre is a highly respected Brazilian bassist, composer, and musician, primarily known for his extensive work in instrumental Brazilian music and jazz. He began his musical journey at age 11, initially studying guitar before being drawn to the bass guitar. A self-taught musician, Mitre turned professional in 1985, quickly establishing himself in the Minas Gerais music scene.

Throughout his career, Mitre has amassed a significant discography, participating in the recording of over 120 albums. He has collaborated with numerous prominent Brazilian artists, including Flavio Henrique, Juarez Moreira, Toninho Horta, and Nivaldo Ornelas, and has performed internationally in countries such as Portugal, Italy, Finland, the United States, Argentina, France, Spain, and Sweden. His international performances have been alongside notable musicians like Juarez Moreira, Nivaldo Ornelas, Célio Balona, Trio Amaranto, and Beto Guedes.

Mitre is also a key figure in several musical projects. For nearly thirty years, he has been a part of Juarez Moreira's touring ensemble. He is a member of Trio Mitre, alongside his nieces Luísa Mitre and Natália Mitre, and also co-leads Crio, a trio focused on instrumental Brazilian music and jazz with Christiano Caldas and Lincoln Cheib. In 2024, he celebrated his 60th birthday with the release of his authorial EP "Andaluzia," showcasing his work as a composer and featuring fellow artists from Minas Gerais.
