Biography

Kim Marques is a prominent Brazilian singer and songwriter recognized as one of the key precursors of the calypso rhythm. Born in Cametá, Pará, he inherited his passion for music from his grandfather, a maestro and composer of carnival marches. Throughout his career, he has successfully blended regional Amazonian genres such as brega, carimbó, lambada, and cumbia, cementing his legacy in northern and northeastern Brazil.

His professional recording career took off in 1996 with the release of his debut album, "A Dança do Brega," which sold over 70,000 copies and gained heavy airplay. Over the following decades, he released numerous acclaimed albums and collaborated with various regional acts, notably partnering with Banda Parakaliente in the 2000s. He has written over 350 recorded songs, contributing significantly to the repertoires of notable artists such as Wanderley Andrade and Banda Calypso.

In 2009, Marques celebrated his cultural roots by releasing his first career DVD, showcasing the vibrant musical traditions of the Amazon basin to a broader national audience. Known for his romantic ballads and infectious dance tracks, he continues to be celebrated as one of Pará's finest composers, with a discography spanning more than two decades.
