Biography

The band Lacertae, originally from Lagarto, Sergipe, is a notable experimental and alternative rock institution from Northeast Brazil. Founded in 1989, the group built a unique sonic identity by merging the weight and psychedelia of rock with mystical elements and rhythms from Brazilian popular culture, featuring a prominent characteristic of incorporating the berimbau into their compositions. The band's name, which means "lizard" in Latin, alludes to their geographical origin.

Throughout its trajectory, Lacertae has established itself as a pillar of the Brazilian independent scene, especially in the 1990s and 2000s. The band toured intensively through national festivals, taking the sound of Sergipe to various regions of the country, including Bahia, Pernambuco, São Paulo, and Rio de Janeiro. This projection demonstrates the group's ability to transcend geographical barriers and establish themselves in the musical landscape.

Lacertae's sound is defined by experimentation that moves through post-punk, psychedelic rock, and other branches of experimentalism. The dialogue between the distorted guitar of Deon Costa (vocals and guitar) and the percussion of Aldemir Tacer (drums and berimbau) creates a hypnotic sonic atmosphere, which evokes both the ancestral and the urban. Among their standout albums are "Berimbau de Cipó Imbé", "A volta que o mundo deu", "Núcleo", and "Circus Orchestra".
