Biography
Lactomia is a musical movement and artistic group originating from the Candeal community in Salvador, Bahia. Conceived by musician Jair Rezende, the project was born in the late 1990s from the desire of children and young people to express their musical creativity in an environment of great cultural efervescence. Without access to conventional instruments, the young members of Lactomia transformed recyclable materials, such as cans and scrap metal, into percussion instruments, costumes, and sets, developing a unique sound and original aesthetics.
The group stands out for its capacity for reinvention and the message of sustainability and social inclusion that it carries. Lactomia has performed in various musical spheres, both in Brazil and internationally, taking its art to countries like Italy. The initiative also gave rise to the Lactomia Social Action Association (Alas), which aims to promote social and cultural development through music and the arts.
The trajectory of Lactomia is marked by collaboration with other artists and by its influence on the Bahian musical scene, especially regarding percussion and the use of non-conventional materials in musical creation. The movement has inspired other projects and reinforced the importance of art as a tool for social transformation and expression for youth in vulnerable communities, dialoguing with Salvador's rich rhythmic tradition.
