Biography
Lady Zu, artistic name of Zuleide Santos Silva, was born in São Paulo on May 7, 1958. The daughter of natives of Pernambuco, she began her artistic journey in childhood by performing on radio and television programs, in addition to participating in dances in the outskirts of São Paulo. Influenced by major international names, she sought opportunities as a crooner and won a school festival in her youth, which opened doors for her in the Brazilian artistic milieu.
The major milestone of her career occurred in 1977 with the release of the single for the song "A Noite Vai Chegar", composed by Paulinho Camargo. The instant success sold 1 million copies, was part of the soundtrack of the telenovela Sem Lenço, Sem Documento, and earned her the title of Queen of Brazilian Discos, in addition to affectionate comparisons to Donna Summer made by the television host Chacrinha. In the following years, she consolidated her importance with striking albums that transitioned through disco music, soul, and samba-funk, featuring partnerships and collaborations with artists such as Luís Vagner, Totó Mugabe, and Carlos Navas.
After periods of hiatus in the recording industry, Lady Zu returned with projects focused on R&B, romantic music, and the celebration of her pioneering work, which included re-releases and participations in collective albums alongside names like Tony Tornado. Currently, she remains active on stages, bringing her voice and historical legacy throughout Brazil.
