Biography

Lafayette & Os Tremendões was a prominent Brazilian rock band dedicated to revisiting the great classics of Jovem Guarda and Iê-Iê-Iê. The group was born in 2004, when musician Gabriel Thomaz watched a performance by keyboardist Lafayette in a shopping center and invited him to participate in rehearsals for his own musical project, named Os Tremendões. The partnership worked out so well that Lafayette permanently joined the lineup, which ended up adopting the name Lafayette & Os Tremendões in his honor.

Throughout its trajectory, the band stood out not only on stages, but also through television appearances, such as in 2007, when it participated in an episode of the series "A Grande Família" performing the classic "Mexerico da Candinha", immortalized by Roberto Carlos. In 2009, the ensemble consolidated its sound by releasing its first and only CD album, bringing together the re-recordings and instrumental versions that were a huge success in their live performances.

Keyboardist Lafayette passed away on March 31, 2021, victim of pneumonia, leaving an invaluable legacy for instrumental music and for the memory of national rock. The group featured several talented musicians throughout its history, including Érika Martins and Gabriel Thomaz on vocals, keeping alive the festive and nostalgic aesthetic of the movement spearheaded by icons like Erasmo Carlos. The band's contribution reverences the golden era of Jovem Guarda with vibrant arrangements and lots of personality.
