Biography

Laura Suarez was born in the city of Rio de Janeiro on November 21, 1909. The daughter of a hotel owner, she initially gained prominence when she was elected Miss Ipanema in 1929, besides being recognized at the time for her great beauty.

She began her musical journey in 1930, when she released her first record with the Brunswick label. As a composer and singer, she wrote a large part of the repertoire for her own releases, standing out in partnership with names like Henrique Vogeler and recording dozens of songs in the early 1930s.

Her artistic career extended to theater and television, having been part of celebrated theater companies alongside figures like Raul Roulien and Cacilda Becker. Among her prominent international performances, she participated in one of the first global television broadcasts in the United States by NBC, consolidating a multifaceted trajectory that spanned music, film, and the stage until the end of her artistic activities decades later.
