Biography

Leno & Lílian was a Brazilian musical duo formed by singers Leno Azevedo and Lílian Knapp, who had known each other since childhood as neighbors in Copacabana, Rio de Janeiro. They rose to national prominence during the 1960s as prominent figures in the Jovem Guarda movement, releasing major hits such as "Pobre Menina", "Devolva-me", and "Eu Não Sabia Que Você Existia". Their style defined a unique Brazilian iteration of rock and iê-iê-iê, capturing the youthful spirit of the era.

Following a temporary separation in 1968 where Leno pursued a solo career, the duo reunited in 1972 to record new albums featuring compositions by notable artists like Raul Seixas and Renato Barros. Throughout the 1970s and 1980s, both artists continued with solo endeavors—with Lílian achieving significant success with the 1979 track "Sou Rebelde"—while occasionally reuniting for special projects. They later celebrated the legacy of Jovem Guarda with anniversary concerts in the 1990s and a notable reunion performance at the 2015 Virada Cultural in São Paulo.
