Biography

Leonardo Irian, also known as MC Léo, was a Brazilian rapper and lyricist who rose to prominence as a founding member of the hip-hop group Síntese. Born in São José dos Campos, São Paulo, Irian co-founded Síntese in 2010 with Gestério Neto. Their debut album, "Sem Cortesia (Vagando na Babilônia/Em Busca de Canaã)," released in 2012, was critically acclaimed and established the duo as a significant force in Brazilian underground hip-hop.

Despite the success of "Sem Cortesia," 2012 also marked a turning point in Irian's life when he was diagnosed with schizophrenia, a condition that ran in his family. This diagnosis led to periods of struggle and hospitalization, impacting his ability to consistently participate in the group's activities. His partner, Neto, often spoke about the challenges they faced and the importance of music as a therapeutic outlet, even organizing efforts to bring Irian back to performing and recording.

Irian's lyrical prowess was a hallmark of Síntese's music, characterized by deep, reflective, and impactful verses. His contributions were central to the group's identity and their ability to connect with audiences on an emotional and intellectual level. In 2020, he notably went missing for five days, an event that brought renewed attention to the struggles associated with his mental health condition and sparked conversations using the hashtag "PrecisamosFalarSobreEsquizofrenia." Leonardo Irian passed away in November 2024 at the age of 31, leaving behind a legacy in Brazilian rap.
