Biography

Leonel Cruz was a Brazilian composer and songwriter active in the mid-20th century. His work primarily consisted of boleros and tangos, often with a romantic or melancholic theme.

In 1959, the trio Yucatan recorded two of his compositions: the bolero "Mulher Proibida" and the rasqueado "Solidão." The same year, the duo Palmeira and Biá released his tango "Amigo Heleu," a collaboration with Palmeira. This tango later gained wider recognition when it was re-recorded by Luiz Bordon on the harp.

While specific details about his life and career beyond these recordings are scarce, Leonel Cruz's contributions mark him as a composer who left his imprint on the Brazilian popular music landscape of his time, particularly within the genres of bolero and tango.
