Biography

Liduino José Pitombeira de Oliveira, known artistically as Liduino Pitombeira, was born in Russas, Ceará, in 1962. Initially trained in electrotechnics at the Federal Technical School of Ceará, he later directed his path toward music, graduating from the State University of Ceará in 1996. He deepened his theoretical and compositional knowledge by studying with prominent figures such as Vanda Ribeiro Costa, Tarcísio José de Lima, José Alberto Kaplan, and Dinos Constantinides, culminating in a Ph.D. in Composition and Music Theory from Louisiana State University.

His academic and artistic production stands out for investigating the relationship between music and mathematics, earning him articles and a solid reputation in the classical scene. Throughout his career, Pitombeira has accumulated nationally relevant awards, such as first place in the 2nd Camargo Guarnieri National Composition Contest with his "Suite Guarnieri" and in the "Symphony of the 500 Years" National Composition Contest with the work "Uma Lenda Indígena Brasileira". His compositions have been performed by renowned ensembles in Brazil and abroad, including the São Paulo State Symphony Orchestra (OSESP) and the Berlin Philharmonic Wind Quintet.

As an educator, he has taught at educational institutions and currently works as a professor in the Music Department at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, being recognized for his interdisciplinary approach and striking didactics. The composer's work spans diverse instrumental and vocal formations, encompassing creations such as the "Brazilian Landscapes" series, "Urban Birds", and "Retrato de Uma Cidade", with text by Carlos Drummond de Andrade. His career dialogues with the tradition of Brazilian nationalist and contemporary composers, maintaining a strong projection in the symphonic and chamber repertoire.
