Biography

Lindomar Castilho, born Lindomar Cabral in Santa Helena de Goiás, was a prominent Brazilian singer, songwriter, and instrumentalist who became one of the country's most successful recording artists during the 1970s. Discovered by a record executive after performing at a gathering in Goiás, he released his debut album in the early 1960s and quickly built a solid career specializing in romantic boleros and samba-canções. Known as the "King of Bolero," his rich discography included major hits like "Chamarada" and "Você É Doida Demais," with his records even achieving simultaneous releases in Brazil and the United States.

Throughout his career, Castilho shared the cultural landscape with other notable Brazilian romantic and brega interpreters such as Nelson Ned and Waldick Soriano. His personal life, however, was marked by tragedy in 1981 when he killed his second wife, singer Eliane de Grammont, an event that led to a high-profile criminal trial and a prison sentence. Following his release in the 1990s, he eventually returned to recording with projects like his 2000 live album before stepping away from the spotlight. Castilho passed away in December 2025 at the age of 85 in Goiânia, leaving behind a complex musical legacy in Brazilian popular music.
