Biography

José Paes de Lira Filho, artistically known as Lirinha, was born in Arcoverde, Pernambuco, on November 9, 1976. Since childhood, he was immersed in the universe of recitals and traditional duels of singers and guitar players on his grandfather's farm, which led him to stand out in oral poetry at a very early age, even performing at the traditional Teatro de Santa Isabel at the age of twelve.

Throughout his multifaceted trajectory, Lirinha transitioned fluidly between literature, theater, and music, composing soundtracks and acting in film productions. In 1997, he founded the project Cordel do Fogo Encantado alongside partners such as Clayton Barros, a group that evolved from a theatrical play into a band of great national expression that mixed elements of popular culture, such as coco de roda and reisado. After the group concluded its activities in 2010, he consolidated a solo career with albums like Lira and collaborations with renowned artists such as Siba and Natiruts.

In addition to his striking contribution to Brazilian music and the contemporary Northeastern movement, Lirinha also stood out as a writer and playwright, releasing books and theatrical shows. His artistic importance was recognized with expressive awards, including the award for best MPB composer by APCA in 2006.
