Biography
Liv Mendonça de Moraes, known artistically as Liv Moraes, was born in São Paulo on April 11, 1981. The daughter of the acclaimed singer, instrumentalist, and composer Dominguinhos and the singer Guadalupe, she grew up immersed in the musical environment, appearing for the first time on the back cover of her father's album at eight years old and co-signing her first composition with him, "Vários Caminhos". Before dedicating herself fully to music, she studied classical ballet, attended college for psychology, and refined her stage performance with theater and body expression classes to overcome shyness.
Liv's professional career began at age eighteen, when she started working as a backing vocalist in Dominguinhos's band, touring across the country. Throughout her career, she has consolidated her voice in MPB and northeastern rhythms, collaborating with major icons of national culture such as Gilberto Gil, Elba Ramalho, Lenine, Fagner, Yamandu Costa, and Toninho Horta. She has performed on renowned stages such as Canecão and Vivo Rio, as well as making appearances at Brazil's largest São João festivals in states like Pernambuco, Paraíba, and Sergipe, where she celebrated the strength of forró, baião, and xote.
In her discography, her self-titled debut album released in 2007 stands out, featuring arrangements by Dominguinhos and heavy-hitting guest appearances like Chico Buarque, along with her following work, "É Você", from 2012, recorded in the traditional mold with musicians and an orchestra playing together in the studio. Recognized for her contribution to regional music, Liv was awarded best forró singer at the 6th Pernambuco Music Award. Her work navigates with elegance between the tradition of the northeastern songbook and the sophistication of contemporary MPB.
