Lobão is a pivotal figure in Brazilian rock, known for his provocative personality and multifaceted career as a singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist. Emerging from the underground scene of Rio de Janeiro in the 1970s, he first gained professional experience as a drummer for the progressive rock band Vímana, alongside future stars Lulu Santos and Ritchie. In the early 1980s, he played a crucial role in the founding of the iconic band Blitz with Evandro Mesquita, though he departed shortly before their massive commercial success to pursue a solo path.

Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, Lobão became a household name with hits like 'Me Chama' and 'Vida Louca Vida,' the latter famously covered by Cazuza. His work is characterized by a restless creative spirit that moved from pure rock to experiments with samba, electronic music, and acoustic arrangements. He was a pioneer in the Brazilian independent music market, breaking away from major labels in the late 90s to distribute his music through newsstands and the internet, while also fostering new talent like Cachorro Grande through his magazine, Outracoisa.

Beyond music, Lobão is a prolific writer and media personality. His autobiography '50 Anos a Mil' became a bestseller, detailing his turbulent personal life and his interactions with legendary figures such as Nelson Gonçalves and Gilberto Gil. Known for his outspoken political views and cultural critiques, he remains a controversial and influential voice in Brazilian society, blending the raw energy of rock with a deep intellectual engagement with the country's artistic traditions.
