Biography

Lolo was a Brazilian flutist and popular musician who lived in Rio de Janeiro in the latter half of the 19th century. Little is known about his life, but he is mentioned by chronicler Alexandre Gonçalves Pinto as a musician who dedicated himself to what would later be known as "choro".

He worked as a tram conductor for the Companhia de São Cristóvão. According to Pinto, Lolo died in 1880 as a result of a stone thrown at him during a popular revolt in Rio de Janeiro known as the "Revolta do Vintém" (Penny Revolt). This uprising was caused by public dissatisfaction with an increase in tram fares.

Despite his short life and the limited information available, Lolo is remembered as one of the many popular musicians who contributed to the early development of Brazilian instrumental music, particularly the choro genre.
