Biography

Lourenço Baeta Bastos is a prominent Brazilian singer, instrumentalist, actor, and composer born in Rio de Janeiro. He began his musical journey by learning to play the acoustic guitar at the age of fourteen, later pursuing formal music education during the 1970s at the Villa-Lobos Institute, the Pró-Arte school, and the Brazilian Conservatory of Music, where he studied music theory, flute with Odette Ernest Dias, piano, and vocal performance. In addition to his musical pursuits, he ventured into acting, appearing in the 1972 production of the musical Hair and the 1973 film Os primeiros momentos directed by Pedro Camargo.

In 1980, Baeta joined the renowned vocal group Boca Livre, marking a major milestone in his career and becoming a defining artistic association that continues to this day. Alongside his work with the group, he has released solo and collaborative recordings such as his 1979 self-titled debut album, Bicicleta, and Folia, establishing himself as a significant figure in Brazilian popular music and choral harmony. His artistic trajectory aligns with the rich tradition of MPB alongside contemporaries like 14 Bis.

Throughout his decades-long career, Baeta has maintained an active presence in both the recording studio and live performance circuit with Boca Livre, participating in notable releases like Dançando pelas sombras, Song Boca, and various live albums. His contributions to Brazilian music bridge instrumental proficiency, composition, and vocal arrangement, cementing his legacy within the national cultural landscape.
