Biography
Lourenço Rebetez is a São Paulo-based guitarist, composer, arranger, and producer who masterfully blends elements of jazz, Afro-Brazilian rhythms, and electronic music. He graduated from Berklee College of Music in Boston with a degree in jazz composition and guitar, and later studied popular composition and Afro-Brazilian rhythms with the renowned musician Letieres Leite in Brazil. His debut album, "O Corpo de Dentro" (2016), produced by Arto Lindsay, was noted for its innovative approach, integrating percussion as a structural voice within the compositions and creating a dialogue between jazz harmony and Afro-Bahian rhythmic structures.
Rebetez's work extends beyond his solo career, encompassing contributions to film, contemporary dance, and theater. He also gained recognition for his production work, including co-producing Xênia França's Latin GRAMMY-nominated album "Em Nome da Estrela." His music is characterized by a deep exploration of rhythm, viewing it not just as a foundation but as a compositional element that interacts with other musical languages. He draws inspiration from artists like Moacir Santos, Gil Evans, and Charles Mingus, focusing on orchestration as an integral part of the composition itself.
His second album, "Língua Geral" (2026), produced again by Arto Lindsay, further explores the concept of a "general language" in music, bringing together diverse rhythmic backgrounds and international collaborators. The album features artists such as Kassa Overall, BIGYUKI, and the Candomblé ensemble Grupo Ofá, showcasing Rebetez's commitment to creating a fluid and balanced musical dialogue. His work is a testament to the evolution of Brazilian music, incorporating traditional elements with contemporary global sounds.
