Biography
Luanda Cozetti de Freitas is a Brazilian singer born in Brasília on September 25, 1968. She spent part of her childhood and youth in Africa while her mother lived in exile, later returning to Brazil to settle in the federal capital before eventually moving to Rio de Janeiro. She began her professional music career in 1986, performing in local nightclubs, participating in choir festivals, and joining vocal groups such as Bico de Veludo. Throughout the 1990s, she collaborated on various artistic projects, contributed to albums by artists like Carlos Zimbher, and opened for notable musicians such as Luiz Melodia.
As her career progressed into the 2000s, Cozetti shared stages and projects with prominent Brazilian artists including Beth Carvalho, Dudu Nobre, Emílio Santiago, and Jorge Vercillo. In 2001, she released her debut solo album, titled Luanda!, which featured instrumental contributions from musicians like Bororó and Kadu Lambach. Her versatility allowed her to navigate different musical environments, ranging from choral arrangements to bossa nova and MPB-oriented events.
In 2005, she became a member of the musical band Couple Coffee, an endeavor through which she recorded several well-received albums celebrating Brazilian popular music and bossa nova, including Puro, Co'as tamanquinhas do Zeca!, and Young and lovely – 50 anos do Bossa Nova. Alongside her work with the band, she maintained connections to poets and songwriters such as Sérgio Natureza, cementing her presence in contemporary Brazilian musical culture both in Brazil and abroad.
