Biography

Luciana Maria Rabello Pinheiro was born in Petrópolis in 1961 and emerged while still young on the Brazilian musical scene by joining the famous choro group Os Carioquinhas, alongside her brother Raphael Rabello. Since childhood, she had strong contact with music, learning the acoustic guitar with her grandfather and studying piano and music theory before beginning her professional career in choro at age 15. Over the years, she established herself as a highly prestigious instrumentalist, recording albums and collaborating with major icons of Brazilian popular music, such as Caetano Veloso, Chico Buarque, and Paulinho da Viola.

In addition to her striking work as a cavaquinho player and composer, Luciana played a fundamental role in the preservation and dissemination of Brazilian instrumental music. She founded Casa do Choro, Escola Portátil de Música, and, together with Mauricio Carrilho, created Acari Records in 2000, which pioneered as a record label specialized in the genre. She also conceived the National Choro Festival and was responsible for the release of more than fifty albums dedicated to choro and samba.

Her contribution to national culture extends to composition, having created celebrated works in partnership with renowned artists, such as Cristóvão Bastos and her husband, the poet and composer Paulo César Pinheiro. An absolute reference on the cavaquinho, Luciana Rabello continues to be one of the most respected figures in instrumental music, keeping alive the legacy of the great masters of Brazilian choro.
