Biography
Lucia Helena Carvalho e Silva, known artistically as Lucina, was born in Cuiabá on December 25, 1950. A singer, songwriter, and acoustic guitar player, she began her artistic career in the 1960s as a member of Grupo Manifesto, with which she participated in high-profile festivals and released pioneering phonographic recordings. Her deep and striking vocal timbre became one of her main trademarks throughout a career dedicated to MPB and sound experimentation.
In the 1970s, Lucina formed the celebrated duo Luli e Lucina with Heloisa Orosco Borges da Fonseca — known as Luhli — which remained active until 1998. The duo stood out in the Brazilian independent music scene, recording independently and composing hundreds of songs recorded by prominent interpreters such as Ney Matogrosso, Nana Caymmi, and Zélia Duncan. Following the end of her partnership with Luhli, Lucina continued to consolidate her solo career with acclaimed albums, in addition to establishing lasting creative partnerships with fundamental names in Brazilian music.
