Luis Arruda Paes was a prominent Brazilian instrumentalist, arranger, conductor, and composer who shaped the landscape of popular Brazilian music during the 1950s and 1960s. He was a pioneering figure in Brazilian television, performing regularly on major programs such as Almoço com as Estrelas and Um Instante, Maestro from the very inception of TV broadcasting in the country in 1950.

Throughout his illustrious career, he achieved significant commercial and artistic milestones, notably releasing his debut album, Brasil Dia e Noite, in 1956, which gained international distribution in countries like the United States, Japan, and Argentina. His talent extended to cinema and international collaborations, including composing the soundtrack for the film O Sobrado and creating a special arrangement of "Sophisticated Lady" for Duke Ellington at the request of the legendary American jazz musician.

Honored repeatedly with the prestigious Roquette Pinto trophy, Arruda Paes cemented his legacy as a master conductor of his era, working alongside contemporaries such as Ayrton Rodrigues and Flávio Cavalcanti. Decades after his passing in 1999, his contributions continue to be celebrated through commemorative concerts and cultural tributes across Brazil.
