Biography

Luísa Mitre is a prominent Brazilian pianist, composer, and arranger hailing from Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais. Her musical journey began at a young age, with piano lessons starting at seven years old. Mitre's artistic identity is deeply rooted in Brazilian popular music (MPB), which has significantly shaped her distinctive sound. She pursued formal musical education at the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG), earning degrees in Piano, Popular Music, and a Master's in Musical Performance. Her academic work has focused on researching the nuances of Brazilian popular music as expressed through the piano.

Mitre has garnered recognition through various awards, including the 18th BDMG Instrumental Award, the MIMO Instrumental Award, and the Revelation Award at the International Piano Solo Festival (FIPS), all in 2018. Her debut album, 'Oferenda,' released in 2018, was lauded with the Marco Antônio Araújo Award for best authorial instrumental album of Minas Gerais. In 2021, she released 'Seiva' with Duo Mitre, a project with her sister Natália Mitre, which received the II Prêmio da Música Popular Mineira. She is also an active member of the internationally recognized choro group Toca de Tatu, contributing to three of their albums.

Beyond her performance and recording career, Luísa Mitre is also an educator. She has held positions as a professor of piano and popular music at the Federal University of São João Del-Rei and has developed educational materials and workshops focused on the piano in choro music. Mitre's collaborations extend to duos with flutist Maiara Moraes and guitarist Lucas Telles, further showcasing her versatility and commitment to Brazilian instrumental music.
