Biography
Luiz César Pereira Caldas was born in Feira de Santana, in Bahia, on January 19, 1963. Born into a humble family, since childhood he joined amateur bands and traveled through small towns to perform, which allowed him to master various instruments and intensely experience the musical universe. In the early 1970s, he moved to Vitória da Conquista, where he worked in general services in commerce while playing in his spare time in musician João Faustino's ensemble.
Established as one of the central figures of the Salvador Carnival, the artist is widely recognized as the precursor of axé music. In the 1980s, he achieved resounding national success with hits like "Fricote", "Tieta" and "Haja Amor", leading impressive sales and making appearances on high-viewership television programs, such as Chacrinha's show. His pioneering sound mixed elements of pop, reggae, ijexá, frevo, samba and caribbean rhythms.
Throughout his trajectory, Luiz Caldas demonstrated great artistic versatility by releasing dozens of albums and innovative projects encompassing multiple musical genres, from forró and chorinho to rock, heavy metal and instrumental music. He has received important recognitions throughout his career, including Latin Grammy nominations and awards for his lifetime achievement. In his rich artistic journey, he dialogued and shared moments with various exponents of Bahian culture, such as in the commemorative album alongside guests who celebrated the legacy of axé, approaching the relevance of names like Ivete Sangalo and Daniela Mercury in the dissemination of Bahia's music.
