Biography

Luiz Carlos Magno was a Brazilian singer and songwriter born in Recife on December 3, 1938. He began his artistic journey in the late 1960s performing on TV Jornal do Commercio and initially recording frevos before hosting the youth-oriented musical television program Dimensão Jovem. His regional success eventually brought him to Rio de Janeiro, where he collaborated with major labels such as CBS and Epic Records, building a short yet highly significant career within the brega genre.

Throughout his career, Magno achieved widespread recognition with hit singles like "Ave Maria Pro Nosso Amor" and "Meu Castigo," alongside other notable compositions such as "Terminei com ela," "Rock nas quebradas," and "Maria Madalena." He shared artistic partnerships with fellow brega icons such as Reginaldo Rossi, cementing his prominent place in Brazilian popular music history. His enduring legacy is marked by numerous studio albums and compilations that capture the romantic and emotional essence of his era.

In his later years, Magno suffered from severe health complications, enduring multiple strokes over an eight-year period. He passed away on January 25, 2017, in Duque de Caxias, after spending two months hospitalized following a stroke. Despite the physical hardships of his final years, his contributions to brega music and the Jovem Guarda movement continue to be celebrated through reissues and retrospective collections.
