Biography

Luis Rogério Marenco Ferrân, known artistically as Luiz Marenco, was born in Porto Alegre on December 22, 1964. During his adolescence, he spent years living with his grandfather in the rural area of São Jerônimo, where he worked directly in the countryside. This rural experience had a profound influence on his personal and artistic development, which is directly reflected in the songs he would perform throughout his career.

His musical journey gained professional prominence in 1988, the year he moved to the capital of Rio Grande do Sul and participated in the 2nd Vertente de Piratini, winning the award for best interpreter. Having key figures of regional music such as Jayme Caetano Braun and Noel Guarany as his major references, Marenco built a remarkable discography within the nativist genre, featuring albums such as Filosofia de Andejo and De a Cavalo. His compositions and performances highlight the rural routine and the appreciation of the traditions of Rio Grande do Sul.

In addition to his strong involvement in Rio Grande do Sul's nativist music, Luiz Marenco expanded his cultural activism into public life. In 2018, he was elected state deputy for the PDT in Rio Grande do Sul, a position to which he was re-elected in 2022. In his political work, he has dedicated himself to agendas aimed at spreading regional culture, encouraging music festivals, and valuing the state's cultural agents.
