Luiz Sérgio Carlini, born in São Paulo on August 31, 1952, was a pivotal figure in Brazilian rock music, renowned as a guitarist, composer, and musical director. His career began in the 1960s as a roadie for the iconic band Os Mutantes, immersing himself in the vibrant São Paulo rock scene and gaining invaluable practical experience. Carlini's most significant contribution came in 1973 when he co-founded the band Tutti Frutti. This band became the backing group for Rita Lee after her departure from Os Mutantes, and their collaboration produced some of the most enduring hits of Brazilian rock, including "Esse Tal de Roque Enrow," "Agora Só Falta Você," and the iconic "Ovelha Negra," featuring one of Carlini's most celebrated guitar solos.

Throughout the 1970s, Carlini's work with Rita Lee and Tutti Frutti solidified his reputation as a master of the guitar, blending blues-rock with hard rock influences. He was recognized for his emotive playing style, often prioritizing melodic solos and expressive phrasing over technical exhibitionism. His contributions were instrumental in shaping the sound of Brazilian rock during a crucial period of its development.
