Biography
Luiz Jezaías de Alencar, artistically known as Lulinha Alencar, is a Brazilian accordionist and pianist born in the backcountry of Rio Grande do Norte. His musical journey began at home, where he had his first contact with music through his father, Zé de Cezário, who was also an accordionist. Initially, Lulinha played triangle and bass drum, typical instruments of northeastern forró pé de serra, which mark his musical origins. In 1999, he moved to São Paulo with the intention of pursuing a career as a pianist, but ended up finding opportunities and notoriety as an accordionist, exploring an original and contemporary sound.
Lulinha Alencar is recognized for his skill with the accordion, an instrument he seeks to revitalize and present in new musical contexts. He has participated in important projects like the Chamber Popular Orchestra, alongside artists such as Mônica Salmaso and Benjamim Taubkin. In 2013, he released the CD "Cem Gonzaga", a tribute to the centenary of Luiz Gonzaga, presenting the master's production for solo accordion. His work frequently pays homage to the great names of the Brazilian accordion, like Sivuca and Dominguinhos, in addition to his own compositions that dialogue with northeastern traditions and diverse influences.
The artist has a discography that includes albums like "Al Qantara - Caminhos de Ida e Volta - Brasil-Marrocos" and "Canto Sedutor", demonstrating his versatility and interest in musical fusions. His work extends to recitals and participations in projects that celebrate Brazilian instrumental music and northeastern rhythms. Lulinha Alencar is a name that represents the renewal of roots music, maintaining the essence of forró and expanding its sonic horizons.
