Biography

Luiz Fernando Martin Lima, known professionally as Lulu Martin, was a Brazilian pianist, keyboardist, and composer born in Rio de Janeiro on November 6, 1958. He was the son of Hugo Lima, an amateur pianist and businessman who co-wrote songs with notable Brazilian artists like Dorival Caymmi and Carlos Guinle. Martin began his musical studies in Rio de Janeiro, receiving private piano lessons.

Martin's career gained momentum in the 1980s when he joined the band Garage in 1980, performing in various venues and participating in jazz festivals. He later became a member of Heróis da Resistência, a prominent Brazilian rock band, contributing to their albums "Heróis da Resistência" (1982) and "Religiao" (1988). Throughout his career, Martin also collaborated with other artists, including Ed Motta and Alfredo Dias Gomes, and was a part of the Rio Jazz Orchestra.

Beyond his work with bands and collaborations, Lulu Martin was also active as a composer, with works like "Beleza" and "Nosferatu" to his name. He also worked as a music teacher and, from 1993 onwards, performed frequently with trumpeter Márcio Montarroyos. Martin's contributions extended to commercial music, where he served as a composer and conductor for advertising and electoral campaigns. He passed away on May 10, 2023.
