Biography
Lupe de Lupe is a Brazilian band formed in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, in 2009. Originally composed of Renan Benini, Cícero Nogueira, Daniel Cabral, and Vitor Brauer, the group underwent some lineup changes over the years, later welcoming musicians such as Gustavo Scholz and Jonathan Tadeu. The band debuted in the recording industry with the EP Recreio, released in 2011, followed the next year by their first studio album, Sal Grosso, recorded through the Coletivo Popfuzz label.
Throughout their career, the group established themselves as one of the main exponents of national independent rock, standing out for their DIY aesthetic and low-cost productions. The band is part of the Geração Perdida de Minas Gerais collective, an initiative that seeks to promote independent musical production in the state and strengthen the local scene in partnership with artists like Jonathan Tadeu. The quartet gained national notoriety with ambitious albums such as the double-disc Quarup in 2014, as well as featuring in end-of-year lists by the São Paulo Association of Art Critics with the albums Vocação and Um Tijolo com Seu Nome.
The group's sound moves through facets of alternative rock, frequently being associated with the Brazilian sad rock movement. With a prolific discography that includes works like Lula and Amor, the band maintains relevance in the country's underground scene, influencing new generations of independent musicians. The departure of founding members, such as Cícero Nogueira in 2023, prompted internal rearrangements, with Vitor Brauer also taking over the drums on recent recordings.
