Biography

Lurdez da Luz is a prominent rapper, singer, and songwriter from São Paulo, recognized as one of the most influential female voices in contemporary Brazilian hip hop. Her musical journey gained momentum in the late 1990s when she joined the influential group Mamelo Sound System. In the collective, Lurdez shared vocals with Rodrigo Brandão, consolidating an aesthetic that blended rap beats with elements of samba and Brazilian experimental music.

In 2009, the artist launched her solo career, releasing her self-titled EP the following year. The work featured the single "Andei," whose music video received national prominence and a nomination at the Video Music Brasil (VMB). Throughout her journey, Lurdez has demonstrated enormous versatility by collaborating with heavyweights of Brazilian music, such as Black Alien, Naná Vasconcelos, and Jorge Du Peixe, in addition to participating in the 3 na Massa project. Her sound transitions between classic rap and sonic experimentations, remaining a central figure in the renewal of São Paulo's urban scene.
